Lehigh University Libraries strives to provide a safe and welcoming environment for all patrons including visitors, students, faculty, and staff. In addition to the Lehigh University Principles of an Equitable Community and the Lehigh University Student Code of Conduct, the library holds the following expectations of all students, faculty, staff, and visitors in the library spaces.
We expect our library users to:
- Follow all LTS policies and procedures.
- Engage with LTS staff and student workers in a respectful manner.
- Avoid loud conversations and other disruptive behavior.*
- Wear shoes and clothing while in the libraries.
- Not leave personal items or library laptops unattended. The library is not responsible for lost or stolen personal items. Contact inlend@lehigh.edu to check Library Lost and Found.
- Care for library books as well as other materials, equipment, and facilities properly. Library materials, equipment, and facilities should not be written on or defaced in any way. Users are responsible for the care of items checked out to them.
*Library patrons are encouraged to consult the LTS Spaces Guide to find a space that is most conducive to their study needs.
To ensure the safety of our patrons and staff and the preservation of our materials, library users are prohibited from the following behaviors:
- Photographing any patrons or staff without seeking permission. See the Library Photography Policy for more information.
- Smoking, vaping, and the use of all tobacco products, and use of any illegal substances inside the libraries.
- Playing audio or video in quiet spaces without headphones.
- Sleeping in the libraries.
- Operating a personal business in the libraries.
- Soliciting for any reason while on the premises.
- Engaging in disrespectful, threatening, or intimidating behavior towards LTS staff or other library users.
- Bringing pets into library spaces. Exception: service animals are permissible.
Violations
Those found in violation of LTS policies and procedures will be asked to correct their behavior. Concerning behavior may also be brought to the attention of Student Affairs or the Lehigh University Police Department. Those in repeated violation may be asked to leave the library.
Updates to this Policy
LTS reserves the right to update or change this policy at any time without notice.
