On April 17th, Friends of the Lehigh University Libraries and the Humanities Center will host a talk by Meredith Broussard, “More than a Glitch.” Dr. Broussard is a data scientist and one of the few Black female researchers in artificial intelligence. In her new book, More than a Glitch, she synthesizes concepts from computer science and sociology to explore a range of examples: from facial recognition technology trained only to recognize lighter skin tones, to mortgage-approval algorithms that encourage discriminatory lending, to the dangerous feedback loops that arise when medical diagnostic algorithms are trained on insufficiently diverse data. Watch for details and registration in April.

What’s new in software and technology?

Join us for Lehigh’s inaugural participation in ICPSR’s International Love Data Week, February 10–14, with events exploring themes like Whose data is it anyway? and You make history. Highlights include a workshop on building data literacy skills for staff and faculty and a transcribathon celebrating Frederick Douglass’s birthday. Participate in-person or online, and take on our LinkedIn Learning Challenge to elevate your data skills—learn more and register today!

Faculty and staff can enhance collaboration, streamline project management, and simplify workflows with powerful Atlassian tools like Confluence, Jira, Trello, and Jira Service Management. Drop into Atlassian office hours on Fridays from 12-1 p.m. (starting February 7) to get personalized support, share tips, and explore new ways to optimize your work.

Curious about how generative AI tools like Google Gemini, NotebookLM, or DataCamp’s DataLab can enhance your work? Attend LTS GenAI office hours on the last Friday of each month from 12-1 p.m. via Zoom to explore these tools, see how LTS staff use AI like ChatGPT, DALL-E, Microsoft Copilot, and GitHub Copilot to support teaching and learning, and get your questions answered.

In early January, LTS transitioned software.lehigh.edu to a new software installation system. This web-based environment provides a more secure, robust, reliable, and faster software download platform for the more than 60 software applications LTS distributes to the campus community. Learn more.

Register for Generative AI, technology, research computing, and library resource training in the Spring 2025 Seminar Series. We offer over 45 seminars highlighting Lehigh tools, software, and services designed to help you work more efficiently and maximize your productivity in the office, the classroom, or in your research.

LinkedIn Learning is free to all Lehigh students, faculty, and staff. For faculty, LinkedIn Learning tutorials can be integrated into your Course Site as a resource to supplement your curriculum and enhance student learning. And for staff, sharpen skills or learn new ones with training that complements existing Lehigh career enrichment opportunities available through Human ResourcesLearn more and get started.

Data skills aren’t just for a small handful of careers anymore. Today, they’re essential in every discipline. LTS is pleased to introduce DataCamp, an online learning platform specializing in teaching data literacy for all skill levels. There is no software installation as all learning takes place in a web browser, where students will have the opportunity to follow expert-led courses, complete bite-sized exercises, and receive real-time feedback. Learn more and get started.

What’s new in teaching and learning?

Over winter break, Lehigh’s Learning Management System, Course Site, was updated to include some major security and back-end functionality improvements. While much of the look and feel remained the same, there were also some notable design updates to the course page layout which included smaller iconography, collapsible sections, and the ability to perform actions in bulk. Be sure to check out our resources for more details.

Discover the new LTS Emerging Technologies Lab (LETs Lab) in EWFM 430—a collaborative space where students, faculty, and staff can explore cutting-edge technologies like XR, Generative AI, GIS, and drones with expert support from LTS staff. Join us for an Open House on February 10 to experience hands-on demonstrations and spark new ideas! Read more

The Center for Innovation in Teaching and Learning (CITL) is partnering with 16 Faculty Fellows on 17 projects covering innovative pedagogies, including the use of Generative AI, VR/XR and immersive learning, virtual international exchange, inquiry-based learning, and cross-disciplinary moments in their Spring 2025 courses.

Sixty-nine of our Technology, Research, and Communication (TRAC) Writing Fellows will work with 21 faculty members in 15 classes across the curriculum this spring. We encourage you to submit nominations for your undergraduate students, trainees, and supervisees for entrance into TRAC in the 2025–26 school year. Nominations are due by Friday, February 28.

Mark your calendars! The 2025 CITL Symposium on Teaching and Learning will be held on April 8th. Watch for details in the coming weeks.

CITL spaces, including the Digital Media LabVisualization + XR Learning LabDIY Video & Lightboard Studio, and Audio Recording Studio are great resources to support teaching and learning. Do you have students looking to explore the fields of 3D or 2D game development, VR/AR/MR, or spatial computing? If so, learn more about the CITL Student Developer Lab, located in the Computing Center, just east of FML. You can also stay current with the field of XR at Lehigh and beyond by joining Lehigh's VR/AR Community of Practice, an avenue for learning and sharing.

CITL offers ongoing pedagogical consultations; partners with faculty on course-based writing, research, and digital media projects; supports classroom technology across campus; and provides teaching and creation spaces in both libraries. Not sure where to start? Visit the CITL resources page, browse the Teaching, Learning and Technology section of the LTS Knowledge Base, or submit a request for Instructional Technology/Design support.
