Lehigh’s Strategy emphasizes enhanced exploration of the intersection of technology and human work. The technologies that create this crossroads are rapidly changing. In response, Library and Technology Services has been creating spaces that provide access to both technology and staff who support its use. The most recent addition is the LTS Emerging Technologies Lab (“LETs Lab”), located in EWFM 430, across from The Grind, in the site of the former Digital Media Studio (DMS) Photography and Videography Studios, which have relocated to EWFM 292 (Computing Center) and Business Innovation Building Room 006A, respectively.
Designed to be a collaborative space, LETs Lab creates an environment for students, faculty, and staff to experiment with emerging and advancing technologies (e.g., XR, Generative AI, GIS, and drone technology) and consult with LTS staff who support these platforms.
“The grand opening of the LTS Emerging Technologies Lab marks a pivotal moment for Lehigh. LETs Lab is more than just a collection of cutting-edge hardware and software; it's a testament to our commitment to fostering innovation and providing our students with the tools and knowledge they need to thrive in the ever-evolving digital landscape,” said Greg Reihman, Vice Provost for Library and Technology Services.
“We envision this space as a hub for interdisciplinary collaboration, where students and faculty can explore the boundaries of artificial intelligence, machine learning, virtual and augmented reality, and other transformative technologies. Our goal is to empower the next generation of thinkers and creators to inspire the future makers.”
The LETs Lab also creates a common space to highlight work being done in other LTS digital making spaces, including the Student Developer Lab, the XR Learning Lab, the CITL Photography Studio, the CITL Videography Studio, the DIY Video Recording Studio, the DIY Audio Recording Studio, and the Digital Media Lab. As Lehigh seeks to promote a community of Future Makers, LETs Lab adds infrastructure to an environment meant to foster innovative and interdisciplinary work.
Join us for an Open House on Monday, February 10, 2025, 3-5 p.m., where you can explore hands-on demonstrations, engage with cutting-edge technologies, and connect with LTS staff and peers to spark your next big idea. Light refreshments will be provided.
Visit LTS Emerging Technologies (LETs) Lab to learn more about the features and equipment in the space and to request a consultation with CITL Instructional Technologists to help you get started.
We’re excited to have everyone see the new space. Please stop by!
Sincerely,
Library and Technology Services
