Dear Lehigh students,

Are you a writer? Do you like to read and edit other people’s writing? Are you a skilled researcher or communicator or are you adept with technology? If so — and if you are currently a first or second year student — then we encourage you to seek a nomination to the TRAC Writing Fellows Program at Lehigh!

What is TRAC?

The TRAC acronym stands for technology, research, and communication. TRAC Writing Fellows are talented students from all undergraduate colleges who work as peer writing coaches in courses across the disciplines at Lehigh. There are currently 82 fellows in the program. Each year, we receive hundreds of nominations and accept around 30 of those students. Learn more

What does a TRAC Fellow do?

In the fall or spring, faculty at Lehigh agree to have a course TRACed. Students enrolled in the course meet with a TRAC Fellow two or three times during the semester. Each meeting is a conversation between peers about a piece of writing that is central to the course. A student passes a draft to their fellow; the fellow annotates what’s been written; and a week or two later they meet in person to talk about the markup and more.

Qualifications

  • TRAC is open to undergraduate students from all academic majors who will begin their sophomore or junior year at Lehigh as of Fall 2025.
  • We value empathy, adaptability/resilience, self-awareness/reflection, a growth mindset, and collaborative abilities.
  • Exceptional skills in writing, reading, interpersonal communication, leadership, and time management.

How to apply

You need to be nominated by a Lehigh professor, staff member, or current fellow to apply to TRAC — so seek a nomination today! Nominations are accepted via this form until Friday, February 28th. Pass the link to someone to nominate you!

Rewards of being a fellow

Paid positions

  • TRAC Fellows are paid a bi-weekly stipend. Pay increases every year. Fellows remain in the program as long as they remain in good academic standing.

New and lasting friendships

  • TRAC Fellows support each other and build relationships that extend well beyond their work in the program.

Hone your skills

  • Develop as an editor, coach, and facilitator within the writing process.

Collaborate with faculty

  • Working closely with professors within and outside your discipline provides a rare opportunity for you to reinforce disciplinary knowledge and skills and broaden your academic experience.
