The Friends of the Lehigh University Libraries invite you to a unique celebration commemorating the life and legacy of Miles Rock, one of Lehigh's first graduates in the Class of 1869, on Thursday, May 2, 2024 from 4:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. in Whitaker Laboratory 303. Experience Rediscovering Miles Rock!
More than 120 years after his death, Rock’s great-great-grandsons, brothers Chris Grace and David Grace, donated to the Lehigh University Libraries, Special Collections his records and relics, where they will be preserved and made publicly available for research. The collection provides insight into the life of one of the first self-made Lehigh graduates and the multi-faceted engineer.
Presentation and Panel Discussion
Join us for a conversation featuring Chris Grace and David Grace, great-great grandsons of Miles Rock; Casey Kies, Ph.D. student and guest curator of the exhibit “Rediscovering Miles Rock”; and Devin Finn, Visiting Assistant Professor, International Relations. We will explore stewardship of the Miles Rock collection for over a century. Direct descendants of Miles Rock will share their perspectives on the role this larger-than-life figure played in their lives. Casey Kies will provide insight into his meticulous cataloging of the collection and curation of the exhibit “Rediscovering Miles Rock.” Professor Devin Finn, who incorporated portions of the archive and associated exhibit into her teaching, will describe student engagement with the collection and her research on state formation and extractive industry in Latin America. The panel discussion will be followed by a Q&A session. Registration required

Directions to Linderman Library Note: Due to the Clayton University Center construction, you will need to walk the pathway down the hill from the flagpole.
