Awards

Ilhan Citak, Archives and Special Collections Librarian, won the 2021 Vedat Türkali Poetry Award for Dil Tutulmasi (Tongue Eclipse). The jury’s statement included that “Ilhan pushed the form and language boundaries of his poetry and initiated the search for new narratives and expressions, and gave new breath and voice to Turkish poetry.”

Stacey Kimmel-Smith, Assistant Director of Client Services, and Mark Canney, Manager of Library Lend Services, shared the Louis & Helen Zirkel Library Staff Award for 2020.

Alex Pacheco, Manager of Research Computing, and Steve Anthony, Senior Personnel, were recipients of a 400K National Science Foundation Campus Cyberinfrastructure award in July 2020 to build Hawk - a 34 node, 1752 cpu, 32 gpu HPC cluster with 800TB Ceph storage.

Grant Hittinger, Sr. Computing Consultant, and Tim Palumbo, Sr. Computing Consultant, presented “How Student Workers Saved the Day” at the 2019 SIGUCCS Conference in New Orleans. This presentation showcased how LTS overhauled its PC inventory system by training and empowering LTS student workers for the project.

James Monek, Director of Technology Infrastructure and Operations, presented “Modernizing Campus Safety and Mass Notification Systems” and “IT and Facilities Engagement Strategies” at EDUCAUSE 2020.

James Monek, Director of Technology Infrastructure and Operations, presented “Monitor AWS with Grafana 7” and held the panel discussion “Strategic Cloud Decision Making: A Cloud Journey of Three Schools with Banner” at Cornell Cloud Forum 2020.

Sharon Wiles-Young, Director of Library Access Services, presented for the American Library Association in their CORE Continuing Education series on May 26, 2021. She presented with Paula Sullenger from Texas A&M University Libraries on "Leveraging the FOLIO Transition: Best Practices".

Chulin Meng, Director of Library Technology, and Sharon Wiles-Young, Director of Library Access Services, delivered a session on October 16, 2020 about Lehigh's experience with open source development for the ACRL-Delaware Chapter. The title of the presentation was "A Tale of Risk, Failure and Success: Lessons and Thoughts on the quest for an open source Library Management Platform at Lehigh"

Publications

Carrie Baldwin-SoRelle, Social Sciences & Scholarly Communications Librarian, Instruction & Outreach, co-wrote a chapter of “Scholarly Bridges: SciComm Skill-Building with Student-Created OpenEducational Resources” with Dr. Jennifer Swann in Open Pedagogy Approaches: Faculty, Library, and Student Collaborations, ed. Grant Hittinger, Sr. Computing Consultant, published a paper, "How Student Workers Saved the Day," for the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM).

Mark C. Scott, Business Data Librarian, wrote, "Through the eyes of an academic library: understanding the significance of the strategic planning process" for the Best of the Literature column in Vol. 17, iss. 1 of Public Services Quarterly. Scott also wrote a review on eMarketerPro (Jan/Feb 2020) and SimplyAnalytics (Sept/Oct 2020) for The Information Advisor's Guide to Internet Research.

Brian Simboli, Science Librarian, wrote an invited article for NISO (National Information Standards Organization) on "Standards and the Role of Preprints in Scholarly Communication". January 2020.

Leadership

Ilhan Citak, Archives and Special Collections Librarian, served on the MARAC (Mid-Atlantic Regional Archives Conference) Fall 2021 Meeting in Gettysburg (Pa.) Program Committee  called “Sites of Memory.”

Ilhan Citak, Archives and Special Collections Librarian, served on the Lehigh Valley Historical Maps Consortium Steering Committee, working with a group of LV archivists, librarians, historians to create a historical map database.

Wayne Mery, Senior Analyst of Systems Engineering, completed several terms, from 2014-2020, as an elected member of the Thunderbird Council.

James Monek, Director of Technology Infrastructure and Operations, co-chaired the EDUCAUSE Communications Infrastructure and Applications 1 day workshop (EDUCAUSE 2020) and in June 2021, Monek was selected to co-chair the EDUCAUSE Cloud Computing Community Group. He also participated on the Cornell Cloud Forum 2020 and 2021 Planning Committee.

Certifications

Steven Lichak, Senior Media Specialist, fulfilled the license requirement – The Part 107 Small Unmanned Aircraft Systems (sUAS) Recurrent Certification – to continue to operate sUAS in the National Airspace System.

James Monek, Director of Technology Infrastructure and Operations, Obtained AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Associate Certification. June 2020.

Billy Morris, Library and Computing Assistant, successfully completed requirements for CompTIA Security+ and Network+ certifications in May 2021.

Holly Zakos, Senior Instructional Technologist, completed her Google Innovator project, became a certified Google trainer, and completed the Apply the QM Rubric (APPQMR) course.

Continuing Education

Denise Campion, Manager of the College of Education Support Team and Senior Computing Consultant, graduated in May 2021 with a Master of Science in Instructional Technology from Lehigh University.

Ricky Houck, Lending Services Coordinator, graduated summa cum laude in January 2021 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Business Management from DeSales University.

Billy Morris, Library and Computing Assistant, graduated in Spring 2021 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Information Technology from the Western Governors University.

Conferences

Daniel Huang, Resource Acquisitions Manager, created a conference session in collaboration with LTS staff at the 2021 ER&L Conference, titled: Tag You’re It: Preparing Acquisitions Data for Surprises. 

Stacey Kimmel-Smith, Assistant Director of Client Services, Sharon Wiles-Young, Director of Library Access Services, and Mark Canney, Manager of Library Lend Services, presented at the WPWVC/ACRL Spring Conference Pennsylvania on June 19, 2020 -- “Make Way for Macchiato!” The presenters were later invited to do a reprisal at the Library Association's College & Research Division presentation. Brian Simboli, Science Librarian, was a panelist on the August 2020 American Institute of Physics event "Panel Discussion: Disseminating Peer Reviewed Content in a New Era".

Sharon Wiles-Young, Director of Library Access Services, Stacey Kimmel-Smith, Assistant Director of Client Services, and Mark Canney, Manager of Library Lend Services, presented for two conferences: ACRL-Western PA and West Virginia Chapter (June 19th, 2020) and the PaLA College and Research Division, Luncheon Series (January 13th, 2021). We presented "Make Way for Macchiato" about the Fairchild-Martindale Library service and building redesign.
