Peggy Kane, Director of the Center for Innovation in Teaching and Learning and Director of Distance Education, has announced her retirement, effective December 31, 2024.

Peggy has served Lehigh for 25 years, always at the forefront of promoting the adoption of instructional technologies and innovative pedagogies that promote student learning, foster faculty development, and expand access to a Lehigh education.

During her tenure, Peggy has been instrumental in developing and implementing key initiatives that have transformed the educational experience for our students, such as expanding online learning options, creating faculty development programs, and guiding the university through the transition to remote learning during the pandemic. She has been a visionary leader, a dedicated educator, and a valued colleague.

Peggy’s career has been marked by a deep commitment to student success and a passion for exploring the intersection of technology and pedagogy. She has played a key role in fostering a culture of innovation in teaching and learning across the university.

Some highlights of her career at Lehigh include

  • As Manager of the Distance Education Technical Team, coordinated efforts to develop the Classroom LIVE model of online course delivery, facilitating the integration of in-classroom students and faculty with remote online students in real time.
  • As Assistant Director of CITL, provided oversight for CITL staff supporting faculty, staff, and students during the transition to an online teaching and learning environment necessitated by the COVID-19 pandemic.
  • As Director of CITL, led the expansion of the CITL Faculty Fellows program and Communities of Practice, providing faculty with expanded opportunities to incorporate new and innovative practices into their teaching and share their experiences with faculty across the university.
