Join LTS for our 6th annual celebration of National Poetry Month. Every April since 1996, the Academy of American Poets has sponsored a month-long celebration of poetry. Lehigh has participated in National Poetry Month since 2019 with poetry readings, scholarly talks, and poetry workshops. This year’s celebration will include the following events:

Poem in Your Pocket Day: April 18, all day

This year, Lehigh is celebrating Poem In Your Pocket Day virtually. Look for this year’s pocket poem on the digital signage in Linderman Library,  E.W. Fairchild-Martindale Library, and the Computing Center on April 18th.

Friends of the Lehigh Libraries talk, April 23, 4:30pm, via Zoom

Creating Your Own Archive: Research, Roots and Reclamation in Remica Bingham-Risher’s Soul Culture: Black Poets, Books, and Questions that Grew Me Up and Room Swept Home

For many of the marginalized, especially those who turn to art and research as their means of finding their place in the world, one question that looms large is: who is left out of the archive? In her memoir about cultivating a writing life and her latest book of photographs and poems re-tracing family history, Remica Bingham-Risher looks at poetry as a kind of genealogy. She will read from her work, discuss her exploration of public and private histories as well as how this work helps redefine what an artist thinks they know about their own story.
