Proposal: WRT 005, a first-year composition and literature course for multilingual writers, will offer a hybrid, fully virtual COIL experience in partnership with USFQ in Quito, Ecuador. This course will focus on multimodal writing, exploring the impact of environment and environmental inequities on health and well-being. Students will collaborate remotely and potentially travel to USFQ's Galapagos Science Center to conduct research and experiential learning in diverse Ecuadorian communities. Using FrameVR, students will create 3D models based on their research, turning their compositions into immersive VR experiences. The course emphasizes intercultural communication, comparing lived experiences, developing global citizenship, and enhancing digital media skills. Students will utilize various digital platforms (Zoom, WhatsApp, etc.) and tools (Spatial.io, One Button recording equipment) to collaborate and create multimodal texts, fostering equitable interactions and supporting multilingual writers.
