Title: Language Specialist
College/Department: International Center for Academic and Professional English (ICAPE)
Course: WRT 005 Composition and Literature II for Multilingual Writers
Student Enrollment: 18
Proposal: This WRT 005 course builds upon WRT 003, focusing on advanced academic writing, including field-specific writing and source integration. The theme is environmental sustainability ethics, explored through the lens of self, others, and the world. Students will connect with an element (earth, fire, water, air, ether) through an Ikigai workshop with Lehigh 360, then research related environmental issues. They will create XR immersive PSAs to raise community awareness, potentially submitting proposals to the Office of Sustainability for grant funding and action. The course aims to intrinsically motivate students to address environmental problems using their creativity and strengths, leveraging XR to create impactful PSAs that inform, call to action, or raise awareness. Ideally, XR experiences will allow students to appreciate the beauty of each element and then develop proposals to reduce pollution. The course may also explore connecting with other classes or organizations like the UN to share these PSAs.
