Course: SOC 197, How Did Opioids Become an Epidemic?
Student Enrollment: 30
Proposal: This deeply cross-disciplinary course uses opioids as a string that ties together research in sociology, economics, pharmacology, and public policy. Several guest speakers will be invited to class, linking discussions and readings with the true impact of the opioid epidemic while empowering students to make local connections for internships or volunteer work. Students will plan and facilitate class discussions as assigned, maintain journals throughout the semester, and complete a multimedia "public sociology" project.
