The LTS Telecommunications & Network Infrastructure (TNI) team has successfully completed migrating more than 2,000 end users from Cisco phones to Zoom Phone, marking a significant milestone in our ongoing telecommunications modernization project. This transition began in December 2024 and wrapped up the week of March 24, 2025, achieving an impressive migration in just four months.
We appreciate the cooperation and flexibility shown by all users throughout this change, especially the department coordinators for the migration. For many users, the migration involved straightforward phone number transitions and basic hardware updates. However, several departments required more complex coordination to ensure continuity and functionality, especially critical areas such as the Registrar's office and the Police Department's contact centers. The TNI team diligently collaborated with these departments, ensuring a smooth transition with minimal disruption to essential services.
As we now move into the next phase of this initiative, our commitment remains focused on providing robust, reliable communication solutions that enhance the user experience across campus. The next phase of the migration will be focused on migrating more than 2,000 utility and common area phones throughout campus. As we look to be more efficient, we are asking various departments to review the needs for these common area phones prior to migrating them.
As we exit this phase, key metrics for the end user portion of the project are below along with a snapshot of the dashboard at the end of this phase.
- Total phone numbers migrated as of March 24th: 2,169
- Only 44% of the users decided to keep their physical desktop phone
