From Imaginary to Reality: A Conversation with writer, bibliographer, anthologist, librarian, and collector Alberto Manguel

Friends of the Libraries speaker series, Tuesday, June 15, 2021, 12:00 p.m. EDT, online via Zoom

The Friends of the Lehigh Libraries is pleased to announce a June program, From Imaginary to Reality: A Conversation with writer, bibliographer, anthologist, librarian, and collector Alberto Manguel, on Tuesday, June 15, at noon EDT. (View the recording at LTS Talks)

The lecture will be followed by a Q&A session led by Lois Black, Curator of Special Collections.

This event is free and open to the public. Please register in advance. After registering, you will receive a confirmation email containing information about joining the meeting.

Manguel, whose indispensable The Dictionary of Imaginary Places inspired the current Lehigh Libraries Special Collections exhibit Visit Imaginary Places!, will share his experience researching the world literature he surveys in this catalog of fantastical settings.

In Lehigh’s Special Collections exhibit, intrepid literary travelers will have the opportunity to see “utopias, Atlantis, Lilliput, Camelot, Wonderland, and more” - all with no passport required! These imaginary places are available for discovery in this exhibit and in Lehigh’s Special Collections.

Please travel with us to visit these imaginary places, taking a trip from antiquity to current popular fiction with stops along the way in the Renaissance, Enlightenment, Victorian period, and today. The complete exhibit is available online at omeka.lehigh.edu/exhibits/show/imaginary-places/about.
