Library and Technology Services is excited to announce the campuswide availability of Zoom Phone, a cloud-based, feature-rich softphone system. Zoom Phone integrates seamlessly with Zoom services already in use at Lehigh and supports a “softphone-first” approach, reducing the need for physical desktop phones.
What’s changing?
Starting in September, Lehigh will transition all faculty and staff phones from the current Cisco desktop phones to this new system, reflecting the University’s commitment to enhancing user experience and streamlining technology infrastructure. Key changes:
- When your department migrates to the new Zoom Phone system, you will be able to make and receive phone calls using your Lehigh phone number on a computer or smartphone where Zoom software is installed.
- With Zoom Phone, most people will find they no longer need their physical desktop phone.
What features can I expect from Zoom Phone?
- Highly Customizable Settings: The Zoom softphone offers extensive configuration options, allowing you to set communication hours and create boundaries by specifying when you'll receive calls and texts. It recognizes when you're in a meeting and provides discreet notifications with options for managing incoming calls.
- Text Messaging: Send and receive text messages using your Lehigh University number.
- Voicemail to Email: Receive voicemails and transcriptions directly in your email inbox.
- Call Screening and Blocking: Screen incoming calls and block unwanted numbers directly through the Zoom Client.
What features have been added to the Zoom platform?
- Expanded Zoom Capabilities: With our new Zoom One contract, users of Zoom Meeting will now enjoy an increased attendee limit of up to 1,000 participants for both meetings and webinars. The Zoom webinar feature is available to all accounts by default.
- Zoom Scheduler Integration: The new Zoom Scheduler, comparable to Calendly, simplifies scheduling, making it easier to coordinate meetings and events.
- Conference Room Integration: Seamless integration with Conference Zoom Rooms, along with enhanced email and calendar synchronization with Google, will further improve the ease of communication and scheduling.
What is the timeline for this change?
To best support you during this change, we will transition a few departments at a time, starting in September.
- LTS will contact you with the specific timeframe for your department’s transition.
