Title: Professor - Department Chair
College/Department: College of Arts & Sciences - Department of Sociology & Anthropology
Course: SOC 105
Student Enrollment: 25
Proposal: This course will be enhanced by integrating AI in two key areas: interactive classes and writing exercises. First a partnership with CITL staff is proposed to develop AI-driven group exercises, such as simulations, debates, and mock 'intelligence' reports. While initial concepts exist based on Joyner's 2024 book, "A Teacher's Guide to Conversational AI," expertise is needed to properly scaffold and structure these ideas into realistic exercises.
Second, the writing exercises will be updated to use AI for transcribing in-class writing prompts. An existing collaboration with Special Collections on handwriting recognition has encountered roadblocks that using the ChatGPT API could resolve. Further collaboration with CITL staff is needed to create a functional workflow for digitizing student handwriting.
