Proposal: This project aims to develop first-year students' academic writing and critical thinking by having them explore the intersection of personal experiences with broader cultural and economic influences. Students will write a memoir about a nostalgic, marketed product, analyzing how commercialism shaped their memories and perceptions. This written piece will be complemented by a multimodal project, either a visual essay using images and advertisements or an audio memoir incorporating sound effects and commercials, to further develop their communication skills across various media. The project ultimately seeks to help students become more critical consumers of media and more effective communicators in a multimodal world.
