Expectations of an academic library have changed dramatically.
Active learning areas, flexible spaces, labs for digital scholarship, data visualization and virtual reality labs, innovative classrooms, and more online materials are becoming the norm. We have done so much to meet these needs, but we have a long way to go.
Built between 1968-69 and expanded in 1984, the Fairchild-Martindale Library and Computing Center (FML) is now in line for a transformation to equip it for teaching, learning, and research in a digital world. The library is far more than a study hangout. It is an environment that fosters research, generates ideas, and creates scholarship. It enables faculty to experiment in their curriculum and teaching. It’s where discovery, exploration, creativity, and innovation take root and flourish.
The lower level of the Computing Center will be reimagined as a campus technology hub where students and faculty collaborate, experiment, and solve problems in a tech-rich environment, featuring developer and creator spaces, and visualization and virtual reality labs.
