Install CrashPlan ProE (Lehigh)

Installing CrashPlan ProE for Lehigh requires a CrashPlan account, and the ability to download and install software onto the computer you want to back up. See the CrashPlan service page or your Computing Consultant for more information. Once you have that account, follow the instructions below to download and install the current version of the CrashPlan ProE client program for use at Lehigh. (Note: click on the pictures to see an enlarged view)

After you've been notified that your CrashPlan account has been provisioned, log into the computer you wish to back up with an administrative account, and visit http://go.lehigh.edu/crashplan in a new web browser window.

At the CrashPlan server page, log in with your Lehigh username and password.

In the window that appears, click on the 'Administration' button.

In the Dashboard window, click on the 'App Downloads' link.

Click the Download Apps button corresponding with your OS.

Once the download is finished, open your downloads folder, and double-click on it to run the client installer program.

Follow the prompts from the installer program, clicking 'Next' or 'Continue' at each screen, accepting the default choices for all settings, and accepting the license agreement, which must be accepted to proceed. When the installer finishes, close the window, and wait for CrashPlan to start.

Once the installation program finishes, you should come to the CrashPlan login screen shown at the right.

If you don't see the login screen, jump to Step 9 now.

If you do see it, select 'Existing User', and enter your Lehigh username and password, and enter crashplan.cc.lehigh.edu for the server and hit OK. That should get you to a screen as shown in Step 10.

Once the program is installed, and you are correctly logged in, you should see this window.

Click the small grey 'x' to close the 'Congratulations' window.

If you are installing CrashPlan on a replacement system or re-imaged one, click on 'adopt' to select the backup archive for the old system or the one that this system had used previously.

Backup to the ProE cloud server should start immediately using a default backup selection.  

That default selection will only include the user profile folder of the installing user in the machine's 'Users' or 'home' directory. Click the 'Change' button if you wish to select any other additional users' files or directories you'd like backed up from the machine.

Make sure that the files selected for backup include all of the folders on this computer that you want to back up. Check with your Computing Consultant if you're at all unsure which files to back up.

Click on the triangles next to the directory names to expand the directory to see which files inside will be backed up. Note that a 'check' in the box on the left edge of the window indicates that whole directory or file will be backed up. A filled square or 'minus' sign indicates that only part of the directory will be backed up.

Click Save to approve any changes to the file selection. Feel free to close the CrashPlan window. The program will continue to run in the background.
