In order to connect to the Lehigh network, and many of the resources on it from an off-campus computer, users need to install the Cisco AnyConnect VPN client. This software encrypts your device's network traffic, and allows it to pass through a 'tunnel' over the internet, and onto the Lehigh network, allowing a remote device to function as if it were on campus.

The steps below describe the process of downloading and installing the software onto 'desktop' computer operating systems -- they're the the same for Windows and Mac.

Open a web browser, and enter "vpn.lehigh.edu" into the address bar.

Enter your Lehigh username and password, and click 'Log In'.  In the resulting window, click 'Download for <your OS>'

Click "Instructions" and scroll down to display additional help for running the installation program.

Once the program has started, enter "vpn.lehigh.edu" in the server name box, and click "Connect"

_BEFORE_ entering your username and password, click on the other smaller window, which may be _underneath_ the login window, to correctly set your Access Method using the "Group" pulldown.  Select 'Library Resources' if you're intending to access library resource databases.  Leave it set it to "General Access" for most other uses.  See "Selecting an Access Method" for a full explanation.

Once your Access Method is set correctly, enter your Lehigh username and password into the login window, and click 'Login'.   If you're enrolled in it, the Lehigh Duo Two-Factor Authentication screen will appear next, and request a second factor for login.  Note that it isn't possible to be 'remembered' by the VPN client for 30 days.

Once connected, your system tray icon or menu bar icon will change to indicate that your connection has been secured.
