Customize Mail Notifications in Thunderbird

By default, Thunderbird enables mail notification pop-ups that contain information such as the subject, sender and message preview text of new messages as they arrive. You can change whether you get a pop-up at all or change what you see in the pop-up box, as well as turn audio alerts on or off.

If you don't want to be notified in this way, click Tools > Options > General. Uncheck either or both boxes for Show an alert or Play a sound. Then click OK.

Note: Even if you uncheck both boxes, Thunderbird will still display the small envelope icon in the lower right of your screen.

If you do want to show alerts, but want to limit the kind of information displayed, click Customize and check only what you want to see. Click OK, then exit Options.
