Configure an iPhone for Lehigh Email (non-Gmail)

These instructions are for configuring an iPhone for a traditional Lehigh IMAP email account (not Gmail).

PREREQUISITE: Make sure you are in a location with a good signal or reliable WiFi connection.

At the Home screen, tap the Settings button.

On the Settings screen, scroll down and tap Mail, Contacts, Calendars.

On the Mail screen, tap Add Account.

On the Add Account screen, tap Other.

On the Other screen, tap Add Mail Account.

On the New Account screen, tap on the Name field, type in your name and tap return.

The cursor will move to the Address field on the next line. Enter your email address in the same manner. Enter your password. The Description field is filled in automatically.

Tap the Save button.

The New Account screen will change to show an IMAP tab at the top, and Incoming and Outgoing Mail Server sections below.

Tap the Host Name field and enter "mail.lehigh.edu". Tap the User Name field and enter your 4- or 6-digit Lehigh email ID.

Scroll down to the Outgoing section and enter the Host, User and Password in the same manner..

Tap Save.
You should see "IMAP account verified" at the top of the screen.

[NOTE: If you see a dialogue "Cannot Connect Using SSL. Do you want to try setting up the account without SSL?" Tap "No".]

Back on the Mail,Contacts, Calendars screen, tap the account you just created.

Scroll down and tap the Advanced button.

You may wish to change several of the default Mailbox Behaviors such as where to store Sent and Deleted Messages, as well as the Removal preference.

In the Mailbox Behaviors section, tap Sent Mailbox.

You should see a screen showing your mail folders on the IMAP server. If you do not see them, tap Advanced to go back, wait a few seconds and try Step 6 again.

Scroll down through your folders list until you can tap on the Sent folder. A check mark will appear.

Tap Advanced to go back.

In the Mailbox Behaviors section, tap Deleted Mailbox.

Scroll down through your folders list until you can tap on the Trash folder.

Tap Advanced to go back.

In the Deleted Messages section of the Advanced screen, tap Remove.

Change the setting by tapping "Never".

Tap Advanced to go back.

The Advanced screen settings should appear as shown at the immediate left.

Tap your email address in the upper left to go back to the Account screen.

Tap the Mail button in the upper left corner to go back to the Mail screen.

You should see your email address listed under the Accounts section.

(Optional) You may customize the settings within the Mail section by scrolling down. Examples are shown at left.

Press the iPhone Home button below the screen to return to the Home screen. Tap the Mail button to begin using Mail. Confirm that the iPhone can connect to Lehigh's mail server to retrieve and send messages.

If you'd like to add the Lehigh address book so you can auto-search the directory when composing mail, do the following;

1. Tap Settings > Accounts
2. Tap Add Account > LDAP
3. In the Server field, enter ldap.lehigh.edu
4. In the BaseDN field, enter dc=lehigh,dc=edu
5. Select Anonymous
6. Select Use SSL (the port number will change to 636)
7. User Name and Password remain blank
8. Tap Verify
