One of the most fundamental issues when using computers, especially in a large organization, is simply where to store the files you create. There are numerous considerations that go into deciding the best location in which to store your data. The most basic differentiation of those options is by their physical location. All Lehigh users are strongly advised to become familiar with the options described in detail in the links below. The take-home message: use LAN storage whenever possible -- it's secure, backed up, and accessible from anywhere.
Be aware that all data storage (computer file storage) at Lehigh is governed by the Data Classification Policy, the Records Retention Policy, and the Cloud Computing Policy. Many systems are not backed up by default, and additional configuration and / or provision may be needed to keep information protected. General guidelines on this topic are presented at LTS Seminars, and the slides for this one are available.
