Download and Configure the Cisco AnyConnect VPN Client Software

In order to connect to the Lehigh network, and many of the resources on it from an off-campus computer, users need to install the Cisco AnyConnect VPN client. This software encrypts your device's network traffic, and allows it to pass through a 'tunnel' over the internet, and onto the Lehigh network, allowing a remote device to function as if it were on campus.

The steps below describe the process of downloading and installing the software onto 'desktop' computer operating systems -- they're the the same for Windows and Mac.

Migrate Local Folders from Thunderbird to Lehigh Gmail

PLEASE NOTE: Lehigh does not support using Thunderbird to access your Gmail account for day-to-day use. This document is provided ONLY as a means of moving your Thunderbird Local folders up to the Lehigh Gmail account.

Some people store email messages locally, on the computer hard drive. In Thunderbird these folders are listed below the Lehigh account, under the heading "Local Folders." Depending on the number of folders, this process could take several hours or even longer. We advise migrating only those folders that you want to preserve for future use.

Print to Google Cloud Print via Google Chrome

The Google Chrome browser (available at https://www.google.com/chrome) allows you to print to any Google Cloud Print enabled printer on campus. You can print any file or webpage that opens in Chrome as well as any files you have uploaded to Lehigh Google Drive including PDFs, MS Office files, and image files.

Print via Email to LTS Printers

You can print to LTS public site printers by emailing an attachment to the printer's designated email address. This makes printing easy from any device--no need to download individual printer drivers, connect to the VPN, or the print server.

Install ChemBio Office 15 for Personal Use (and Mac OS X)

Note:  A new version of this software suite, called simply 'ChemOffice Professional 17', is available on the software site.  Use the instructions below only if you have a specific need for an older version.

Editing the Classroom Technology and Public Computers Pages

This guide is intended to orient editors of the Classroom Technology and Public Computers pages (https://ltsfacilities.lehigh.edu), which exist to communicate to students, faculty and other staff about the equipment and services offered in the locations described there. Those descriptions should let the readers know both about what equipment and services are provided in the room and who should be contacted with regard to each of the types of services.

Controlling Dual Displays in an LTS Facility

Some rooms at Lehigh are equipped with dual projectors or displays, allowing two different video sources to be shown at once. Dual display rooms offer significant flexibility but they are somewhat complex. If you would like an orientation please call the Media Center (83059).

Configure Remote Desktop for Windows 7 (Mac)

Windows has a built-in service called Remote Desktop, which connects two computers over a network. Once connected, you'll see the remote computer's desktop as if you were sitting right in front of it, and have access to all its programs and files. These instructions describe how to configure the remote computer settings to allow a connection from another location, such as your home. It also covers how to make the connection from home, using VPN and the IP address of the host PC.

Steps 1-5 pertain to your office computer. The remaining steps are for your Mac.

WiFi Connection Instructions

The vast majority of current laptops and mobile devices have built in WiFi support. Plug-in adapters that support 802.11b/g/n are available for older laptops and can be purchased at most office or electronics stores. Your device must support the WPA2 Enterprise authentication standard that the "lehigh" wireless network uses. This standard allows LTS to limit network access only to people with Lehigh computing accounts.

Below you will find the basic standards/settings that your computer/device must support in order to connect to the wireless network at Lehigh.
