Access local files from Virtual Software [macOS]

The following instructions will guide you through making folders and repositories on your local computer (Desktop, Documents; Dropbox; Google Drive; etc.) available inside virtualized applications running inside the VMware Horizon (Virtual Software) client in macOS. This documentation assumes you are already logged in to Lehigh's virtual software server. If you need help logging in please review these stepwise instructions.

Installing Avast Antivirus Software

Avast Business Security Antivirus provides active, centrally-managed anti-malware protection to Lehigh-owned faculty and staff PCs and Macs. On PCs, it is used in combination with a centrally-managed enterprise version of Malwarebytes that is automatically installed as part of the Windows Update process. All other anti-malware software should be removed (or deactivated, in the case of built-in Windows software that cannot be uninstalled, such as Windows Defender).

Using Stata on the Virtual Site (Mac)

Stata is now available in a virtual environment. It can be run on- or off-campus. Follow these steps to install and configure VMware Horizon Client and VPN, and to access Stata and manage files from your computer.

Install ChemBio Office 15 for Personal Use (and Mac OS X)

Note:  A new version of this software suite, called simply 'ChemOffice Professional 17', is available on the software site.  Use the instructions below only if you have a specific need for an older version.

Editing the Classroom Technology and Public Computers Pages

This guide is intended to orient editors of the Classroom Technology and Public Computers pages (https://ltsfacilities.lehigh.edu), which exist to communicate to students, faculty and other staff about the equipment and services offered in the locations described there. Those descriptions should let the readers know both about what equipment and services are provided in the room and who should be contacted with regard to each of the types of services.

Controlling Dual Displays in an LTS Facility

Some rooms at Lehigh are equipped with dual projectors or displays, allowing two different video sources to be shown at once. Dual display rooms offer significant flexibility but they are somewhat complex. If you would like an orientation please call the Media Center (83059).

Configure Remote Desktop for Windows 7 (Mac)

Windows has a built-in service called Remote Desktop, which connects two computers over a network. Once connected, you'll see the remote computer's desktop as if you were sitting right in front of it, and have access to all its programs and files. These instructions describe how to configure the remote computer settings to allow a connection from another location, such as your home. It also covers how to make the connection from home, using VPN and the IP address of the host PC.

Steps 1-5 pertain to your office computer. The remaining steps are for your Mac.

Install the VMWare Horizon Client on macOS

The following instructions will cover downloading and installing the VMware Horizon Client which is used to access Lehigh's virtual software system. To access virtual software, you must be connected to the Lehigh network, either with an Ethernet cable, via Lehigh wireless, or over the internet via the VPN. Learn more about configuring the Lehigh VPN on your device.
