Guest Computing Accounts

Lehigh University affiliates and visitors can obtain a temporary guest computing account which allows access to the Lehigh wireless network and to the public site computers. The account is valid for a period of seven days. Guest accounts require sponsorship by a Lehigh University faculty or staff member. Lehigh provides other types of temporary accounts on a per-need basis with administrative approval.

High Performance Computing (HPC) / Research Computing

Library & Technology Services provides solutions for solving large computational problems to students and faculty of Lehigh University, including system administration for our central Linux clusters and other servers, support for open-source and research software development and performance optimization, and consulting and proposal assistance.

LTS provides, maintains, and supports public site printers and printing software. Paper and toner are provided by LTS for some public sites. The public site and classroom printers are primarily for student and faculty use. All Lehigh users - faculty, staff, and students - are given a public site print allowance of 75 points for the year at no cost. This allows users to print at public computing sites. Black and white printing starts at .05 points per side and color printing starts at .25 points per side.

Wireless Networks (WiFi)

Library & Technology Services maintains three wireless networks:

Computer File Storage

One of the most fundamental issues when using computers, especially in a large organization, is simply where to store the files you create. There are numerous considerations that go into deciding the best location in which to store your data. The most basic differentiation of those options is by their physical location. All Lehigh users are strongly advised to become familiar with the options described in detail in the links below.

E-portfolio (Mahara)

Mahara e-Portfolio System

Lehigh University is currently using the Mahara ePortfolio platform. Mahara is available from Course Site or directly from the following link

Course Site

Course Site is Lehigh University's course management system.  It is based on an open-source platform called Moodle.  Although the majority of people that access Course Site are using it for course management, it can provide services in other ways.

Malware Detection and Removal

Malware, short for malicious software, is software used to disrupt computer operation, gather sensitive information, or gain access to private computer systems. It can appear in the form of code, scripts, active content, and other software. Malware is a general term used to refer to a variety of forms of hostile or intrusive software.

Antivirus and security software

Lehigh strongly recommends that all users protect their computer by installing a recommended Antivirus program.

Faculty/Staff Lehigh-Owned Computers

The Lehigh VPN (Virtual Private Network)

A VPN is a network system that makes a secure connection between a client computer at a remote location (such as a personal machne at home or off-campus) and a protected, private network (such as Lehigh's campus network) over an otherwise insecure public network (such as the Internet). Data passed over the public network is encapsulated and encrypted so that it can't be intercepted or tampered with.
